If your dream is to be in a recording studio with the legendary rock band Aerosmith don't miss Rock'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Here's the deal, you're getting an exclusive behind the scenes tour of G-Force Recording Studios.. As you enter the studio there they are, right in front of you, the one and only Aerosmith. Just when you think you will get to live out that dream of playing guitar with the band, in comes their manager who says they are late for their concert across town. Aerosmith feels bad you came all that way for nothing so they are taking you with them to the concert in a very special limo. Word of advice hang on tight!
Once you climb into your limo, you're in for one of the most thrilling rides in all of Walt Disney World. You watch the count down clock tick down, and then you are launched from 0 to 57mph in 2.8 seconds. Get ready for twists and turns in complete darkness, with only the glow of neon street signs that race past on the left and right, as well as above and below you. Rock'n' Roller Coaster boast not one but three inversions: one corkscrew and two loops. Oh, and did I mention the 5 speakers per seat blasting your favorite Aerosmith tunes through the whole ride. You arrive just in time to climb out of your limo and walk the red carpet into the concert hall aka gift shop.
This is an attraction worth standing in line for, but it does have the Fast Pass option. Also remember you have to be at least 48" tall to ride.
DID YOU KNOW?
When Aerosmith came to Walt Disney to preview the Rock'n' Roller Coaster, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry rode it 12 times in a row. That is 72 inversions all together.
Look on the tile floor as you exit the first room on the ride building to find three tiny circles in a familiar Mickey shape. Add this to your Hidden Mickey list.
TOURING TIPS
As you get ready for that initial launch, keep your head back firmly against your headrest. Your in for a bit of a jolt
Disneyland's Matterhorn is 50 plus!
The Matterhorn that dominates the Disneyland landscape turned 50 in 2009. When it opened back in 1959 it was the first thrill ride built at Disneyland. It was the tallest manmade structure in Orange County, and it was the first roller coaster built using tubular steel tracks.
The Matterhorn stands 147 feet tall. The ideal for the attraction came from Walt Disney after filming in the Alps. The Matterhorn has had a few face lifts over the years, but it is still loved by guest today. In 1978, Imagineers added more detailed icy cavern scenes and cars that can seat more guest. In 1994, some mountaineering equipment was added to the attraction. The markings on the equipment read "Wells Expedition." in honor of Walt Disney Company president Frank Wells who passed away that year.
During the summer guest are treated to mountain climbers, Mickey and friends playing out a scene on the mountaintop, and this is where Tinker Bell takes flight sprinkling pixie dust over Sleeping Beauty's Castle before the nightly fireworks begin.
The Matterhorn may not be as thrilling as the other Disney coasters at 27 mph but it is still has a strong following of Disney guest who line up each day to enjoy this classic ride.
The Matterhorn has two tracks. At times the cars will run parrell to each other the difference is that one track offers more dips while the other track offers more curves. Try them both.
DISNEY'S WILDERNESS LODGE
The Wilderness Lodge recreates the grandeur and majesty of the rugged mountain lodges of the Pacific Northwest and is certainly the most rustic of the Disney Deluxe Resorts. Tucked away on the shores of Bay Lake, the Wilderness Lodge is a giant timber framed resort featuring breathtaking landscapes and a spectacular pool. The Wilderness Lodge even has its own geyser.
You'll forget your are in Florida as you turn into the resort grounds. You will find yourself surrounded by oak groves and towering pines, as well as forest of birch and cedar which adds to the feeling of being at a rocky wilderness mountain retreat.
Take a look at the charming rustic signs welcoming you to the resort you'll even find animal tracks along the many walkways.
The landscape is breathtaking indeed, but nothing will prepare for the initial walk into the lobby. The Wilderness Lodge has the highest wow factor of any of the Disney Resorts with its 7 story timber frame lobby featuring towering totem poles, massive western themed chandeliers and a spectacular 82 foot tall stone fireplace.
Nature is the inspiration for this spectacular resort modeled after the historic Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park, as well as other lodges from the 1904 era. The towering fireplace in the lobby symbolizes the strata of the Grand Canyon. Be sure to check for authentic fossils of some prehistoric plants and animals within the stones of the fireplace. The two massive totem poles on either side of the lobby were carved in Washington state and are known as the Eagle and the Raven.
The Wilderness Lodge come complete with its own creek running through the property and a geyser that will spout water many times a day. The Wilderness Lodge has a number of cozy private spots to get away from the hussel and bussel. Balconies overlooking the lobby will lead to one of many cozy fireplaces to relax and enjoy a quite break from the parks. The Wilderness Lodge has many walking trails, a white sandy beach on Bay Lake, boat dock with transfer to the Magic Kingdom, and an amazing pool. This is the perfect resort for families of all ages.
For a once in a lifetime experience, ask if your family can be a Wilderness Lodge Flag Family at the front desk. Each day a selected family gets to climb up to the roof and assist with the raising of the flag.
DISNEY'S HIDDEN TREASURES
When at Walt Disney World have you ever noticed the old time looking machines with the crank handle and wondered what they were? These are penny and now quarter pressing machines. Pressed pennies have been around for a long time and not unique to Disney Parks. But at Walt Disney World alone you can find hundreds of designs to choose from. The best part is that each machine is unique and collecting as many different designs will help put a little more pixie dust in you vacations.
Each machine usually has 3 to 4 designs to choose from, and you will rarely find two machines with the same designs in different locations. You can find Penny press machines all over, in the parks, water parks, resorts, restaurants and stores. You can visit guest services and get a list of pressed pennies available in that park. Don't think that you can collect all the designs in one vacation there are over 1000. To store your treasured pennies Disney sells penny collector books in the parks. Happy collecting
