THE PANAMA CANAL!
Picture yourself wandering among the ruins of a colonial town or gliding through the tops of a thick canopy of forest.  The Panama  Canal offers you a once in a life time experience like no other.  Considered to be one of the engineering marvels in the world, the Panama Canal should be on everyone's list of must-see places.  Ninety years after completion, this link between the Caribbean sea and the Pacific ocean is as vital and vibrant as ever.

Most of the major cruise lines offer at least a few Panama Canal sailings each year.  The most popular Panama Canal cruise is normally about 14 days, starting in Ft Lauderdale ending in San Diego, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.  But the cruises lines do offer other itineraries during the season.  The season for the Panama Canal runs from October to April.  One of the best months to visit the Panama Canal is in December when the average high is 87 degrees, with mid March also being a popular time, but your weather is hotter with averages of 90 degrees.  March is also the driest month of the year with October and November being the rainiest.

You will need to decide if you want to do a traditional itinerary, which means spending a day on the Canal crossing from ocean to ocean.  Some of the cruise lines offer "partial crossing,"  in which the ship doesn't actually cross the entire Canal.  Rather, the ship crosses through one lock, then lets passengers off in the town of Gamboa, along the Canal where passenger can enjoy a multitude of shore excrusions for the day then return to the ship and return back to Florida.

Most Panama Canal cruises call on ports in the Western Caribbean and Costa Rican ports of Limon and Puntarenas.  Ships that are not doing the full trans-canal journey will also stop at Colon Panama at the entrance of the Canal.
